GIACOMO SANFILIPPO TO BE INTERVIEWED LIVE: JULY 20

At 12:30 p.m. (GMT-4) on Tuesday, July 20, Orthodoxy in Dialogue’s founding editor Giacomo Sanfilippo will be interviewed live by Nathan Ormond of Digital Gnosis. You may click here to set a reminder for yourself. They look forward to a broad-ranging conversation on the theme of sexual and gender diversity, Orthodox theology, and pastoral praxis. Questions may be submitted via chat during a brief Q&A session at the end.

Giacomo Sanfilippo (@GiacoSanfilippo on Twitter) is a practicing Orthodox Christian, PhD candidate in Theological Studies at Trinity College in the University of Toronto, father of five, grandfather of three, and former priest. He holds a BA in Sexuality Studies (2013) from York University and an MA in Theology (2015) from Regis College/St. Michael’s College, and is an alumnus (2014) of the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto. Earlier in life he completed the course requirements for the MDiv (1989) at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary near New York City. His MA in Theology thesis, “A Bed Undefiled: Foundations for an Orthodox Theology and Spirituality of Same-Sex Love,” can be read at the University of Toronto’s TSpace, and his doctoral thesis proposal, “Conjugal Friendship and the Sacrament of Love: Father Pavel Florensky’s Orthodox Theology of Same-Sex Love,” at academia.edu. Sanfilippo resides in Toronto, Canada.

Nathan Ormond (@nath_ormond on Twitter) in his own words: “I’m in Manchester (UK). I have a BSc in Software Engineering and work full time as a Software Engineer. I’m studying a part time BA in philosophy (distance over a few years) and an MSc in Computational Neuroscience (next year). I like to think my YouTube channel is an open platform to discuss topics I find interesting and important. I’ve interviewed several scholars (interviews are available in podcast form) in philosophy, theology, history, and mathematics, and I frequently host open conversations where viewers can join in and share their thoughts. I also oppose the American Evangelical approach to religion of “worldview-philosophy” and the salesmanship of certainty through professional apologists. I would class myself as an agnostic Christian: I’m epistemically agnostic about most of the metaphysics but love participating in the tradition, studying all the subjects that Christianity is woven into culture with, and occasionally I am compelled to be a better person by the ethical teachings of Jesus.”
