ASSEMBLY OF BISHOPS STANDS FIRM; PATRIARCH BARTHOLOMEW, ARCHBISHOP ELPIDOPHOROS BACK DOWN

For context see Assembly of Bishops Rebukes Patriarch Bartholomew, Archbishop Elpidophoros in Display of Unity and Ecumenical Patriarchate Hurtles Toward Implosion of Assembly of Bishops.
A high-ranking official in one of the signatory jurisdictions confirms that these letters were never intended for public viewing. We thank the individual who leaked them to Orthodoxy in Dialogue, for the Church belongs to the whole people of God, not just to the bishops. The hierarchy are accountable to the clergy, monastics, and laity for the performance of their episcopal oversight.
As the world’s largest independent blog covering contemporary Orthodox thought and events, we would like to think that the attention that Orthodoxy in Dialogue has focused on this situation has influenced in part the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s reversal in this matter.

COPTIC CHURCH AIDS AND ABETS MOSCOW PATRIARCHATE’S UNCANONICAL INCURSION INTO AFRICA

This report appeared yesterday under a different title on Orthodox Times, a reliably impartial source for Orthodox news around the planet. In a letter to the Coptic Patriarch, the Patriarch of Alexandria addressed him in a particularly high tone and expressed his disappointment at this move, which constitutes “direct interference in serious internal matters of the Orthodox Church.” Read More

TOTAL RAISED

$2,732

UPDATE 8/21/22: We have suspended our GoFundMe campaign as Simon moves to the next stage of his new life in Canada. Our most heartfelt thanks to all of you whose generosity brought him to this point.

Please consider helping Simon (not his real name; not him in the photo), a gay refugee from one of Africa’s most dangerous countries for LGBTQI+ citizens, as he crafts a new life for himself in Canada.

Canada is one of the world’s most welcoming countries for LGBTQI+ refugees.

Simon is scheduled to arrive at my apartment during the first week of August. I’m providing him rent-free temporary shelter in my home, mentoring, accompaniment to immigration-related and other appointments, and additional assistance as needed while he works his way through the process of receiving his work permit, health card, and permanent residency.
