OPTIONS FOR GIVING TUESDAY AT ORTHODOXY IN DIALOGUE

givtue

Giving Tuesday is upon us once again, an annual opportunity for people around the planet to give whatever they’re able to worthy projects and initiatives of their choice.

Orthodoxy in Dialogue proposes the following three options to our readers, ranked by us in what we consider to be order of priority. You may choose to make a gift to one, two, or all three.

#1

Emergency Aid: Gaza under Attack

This initiative is co-sponsored by the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) and the Palestinian Feminist Collective (PFC), and has been vetted independently by pro-Palestinian organizations in the United States. In their own words, this fundraiser “will support families directly displaced as a result of this assault on Gaza. We are raising funds for food, medicine, and women’s hygiene products.” In a post on Instagram, they state that they already have staff on the ground in Gaza distributing supplies, and more staff waiting in Egypt for a humanitarian corridor to be established.

For Andrew: A Special Nativity Fast Project

This is Orthodoxy in Dialogue’s own GoFundMe campaign on behalf of a gay Catholic Ugandan man staying temporarily in Nairobi. Uganda and Kenya are among the world’s worst countries in terms of their legal, judicial, and social treatment of LGBTQ individuals. Andrew has been on the receiving end of physical homophobic violence. We’ve set a modest goal to cover his bus fare, food and drink for the 4-day trip, and entry permit to South Africa. A friend is waiting in Johannesberg to provide housing, meals, and assistance in finding gainful employment. Eventually, Andrew hopes to work toward a university degree in sustainability studies and devote his life to Africa and its peoples so dear to his heart. South Africa is the continent’s most progressive country in terms of legal and judicial protections for LGBTQ people. As of today, we’re a little over ¾ of our goal in under two weeks.
